About Me

I’ve been strategizing and designing brand experiences for nearly 20 years, designing products, developing strategy, and leading teams in-house, at start-ups, at global agencies, and at the boutique agency I founded in 2019, It Has Legs.

My undergraduate work in the humanities shaped how I think about modern communication. Law school helped me learn how to communicate more effectively, and design gave me a place to practice.

I’ve developed a career at the intersection of UX and strategy, bringing experience from content strategy, product design, and customer experience together in service of problem-solving. I’m a passionate team leader with high standards and a genuine desire to help people grow and learn.

On Leadership

Design leadership exists in an ambiguous space. It requires knowing and learning as well as confidence and humility. It’s not easy, and creative directors often have a bad rep because of it. But we must build trust while we acknowledge the pain of our process. We have to ask tough questions and have the determination to answer them. We must also learn how to listen—just shut up and listen.

In so many ways, it’s about vulnerability.

I strive to be honest, fair, and optimistic with my colleagues. Whoever they are, I learn from them every day. And I try to share equal measures of optimism and truth. What we do is a practice. That means we’re never done, and we must show up each day ready to learn something new. If you’ve stopped asking questions, you’ve effectively retired.

Leaders listen. They embrace ambiguity and consider disposition as well as position. They’re uncomfortable with artificial hierarchy. Leaders know that silence is a form of speech and that truth emerges from a vast assortment of different perspectives. They’re turned off by naked ambition and seek to learn something new every day from everyone.
