P-52 intercepts migrants 70 miles south of Malta
FRONTEX: Operation Nautilus-3. In the early hours of the morning on Saturday 5th July 2008 at around 01.30hrs, the AFM's Protector-class patrol vessel P-52 from Armed Forces of Malta' Maritime Squadron intercepted a boat full of illegal migrants, in a position some 69 nautical miles south of Malta. The group was made up of 26 males and their countries of origin apparently vary between Nigeria, Mali, Guinea and Egypt. Given the adverse sea conditions at the time, it was decided to take onboard the patrolboat the migrants, they were landed at Haywharf Base later in the morning at 1100CET.
