RIBEX 2007 Report
A windy weekend for RIBEX The ninth RIBEX, and the fourth to be based in Cowes, marked an exhibition that has come of age. Watch our video report. More than 5,000 horsepower was gathered in Cowes Yacht Haven for three days, spread among 70 RIBs of all types and sizes with 80 exhibitors filling the water and land exhibition spaces. RIBEX is billed as the only show in the world dedicated exclusively to RIBs, and this year the show's profile was raised with sponsorship from Suzuki and the presence of all the major engine manufacturers. and some seriously large power plants. You might think that being held on the Isle of Wight would discourage mainland visitors but the organisers say this isn't a problem. Visitors come aboard their own boats or by ferry, and make it a day out and complete RIB fest. RIBEX's location in Cowes Yacht Haven is ideal for trialling the RIBs on a buyer's shopping list. From their berth to the open waters of the Solent is a matter of minutes so potential buyers can try several different RIBs in a short time and exhibitors make the maximum number of demonstrations in a day. This year the weather didn't cooperate, with wind and showers on Friday and strong winds and rough seas on Saturday, but at least the sun broke through at times. And the rough weather certainly didn't stop the sea trials. On Sunday the weather was even worse, with strong easterly winds, a rough sea, and heavy rain hitting the organisers' hopes for 6,000 visitors over the three days. Next year's RIBEX will again be held at Cowes Yacht Haven from 9-11 May 2008.
